Elon Musk, well-known innovator and mind behind projects such as Tesla and SpaceX, gave birth to xAI, an AI startup that recently made headlines with a $6 billion capital raising. These funds will support the development of xAI’s first products, build advanced infrastructure, and accelerate research into new technologies.
xAI already has its own bot, Grok
Musk’s xAI company launched Grok, an advanced chatbot available exclusively for X Premium users, what was once known as Twitter. This product marks xAI’s first significant step into the AI market, proposing a solution that is a direct competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
This project follows the many others that Elon Musk has launched or is launching, all aimed at creating a multifunction platform. Everything then takes on a more personal connotation if we think about Musk’s past with OpenAIthe legal actions taken against it, and how shareholders of Tesla and the CEO’s other companies have taken it.
A loan of 6 billion dollars
The funding raised comes from well-known names in venture capital, including Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia Capital, as well as Prince Al Waleed bin Talal. This new capital follows xAI’s previous attempts to raise up to $1 billion, reported in an SEC filing last year, and comes ahead of further expansions that could take place in the coming months and years.
With the new funds, Musk plans to build an enhanced supercomputer for xAIwith the aim of launching an improved data center by autumn 2025. According to reports from The Information, this center will be equipped with approximately 100,000 Nvidia H100 chipsnecessary to run an advanced version of the Grok chatbot.
Among the various potentials, Grok also has access to the X database: Musk’s intention is to exploit that information to find relationships between different words and phrases of the language, generating results similar to human ones, producing accurate predictions.
