“A fundamental weekend awaits us in Imola in which we must try to make the most of it.” Simone Iaquinta dons his suit and helmet again and dives back into the challenges of the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia after the “episode” in the Supercup on 19 May.
The Calabrian driver of the Prima Ghinzani Motorsport team lines up at the start of the second seasonal round of the Italian series and returns to Imola on the weekend of 2 June at the wheel of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup from the Porsche Centers of Milan. It was on the Santerno circuit that Iaquinta was the protagonist of an unfortunate inaugural stage of the Porsche Supercup two Sundays ago.
The two-time Carrera Cup champion was reluctantly involved in a collision between two other cars and, hit by the young Frenchman Ghiretti, was forced to retire after a rocket start. In the Supercup he will return to Monza in September, but an episode with the same outcome, after obtaining fourth place in race 1, also excluded him from race 2 of the first round of the Carrera Cup Italia held in Misano at the beginning of May.
Precisely for this reason, the second round of the season next weekend will be particularly important in terms of results to allow a sudden recovery in the rankings compared above all to Ten Voorde and Masters, who divided the stakes in Misano with a victory each.
“The potential is there – comments Iaquinta before Imola –, the team has worked very well so far and we have shown it, but we have to put everything into practice and everything together. In the Supercup, bad luck really hit us, in the Carrera Cup Italia sooner or later the wheel has to turn. It’s true that we are only at the beginning of the season, but now we need to push and get as many points as possible. Imola is one of the circuits where I performed at my best in my career and last year I won the last race of the season. From this we start again with the best motivations”.
