“The ‘Let’s change course’ project has brought out the voices of women with ovarian cancer to give us the opportunity to identify and respond to their needs which still remain unanswered today. GSK is committed to continuing this journey and this ‘change of direction’ by going to the territory, to the regions, to offer information and support to all women. Today you touch Campania, which represents a virtuous example on Italian territory for the care of women with ovarian cancer and then, in autumn, the journey will continue.” Thus Laura Cappellari, Patients Affairs Director of GSK, comments to Adnkronos on the contents of the event ‘Ovarian cancer in Campania: Let’s change course’, organized with the patronage of Acto, Association against ovarian cancer, Campania and the sponsorship of GSK.
“Let’s change course – explains Cappellari – it’s a journey that began in 2023 with the presentation of the first illustrated white book on ovarian cancer that we presented to the Ministry of Health, together with the patients’ association. This book is written by women and is for women. It tells their life story and the journey they faced”, after discovering they had ovarian cancer, “but also collects the contribution of expert clinicians in the diagnosis and treatment of this tumor. Being alongside patients and caregivers through the associations that represent them and implementing active listening – underlines Cappellari – is fundamental for us to respond to the needs that still remain unanswered today. Gsk constantly renews this commitment with a team that is entirely dedicated to advocacy and engagement: for us it is a priority to pay attention to the entire patient care path and we know that the need for information is still an element of primary importance. For this reason – he continues – GSK has dedicated a digital platform called ‘Women Care’ to women with gynecological tumors with scientific insights and practical content on women’s health. Taking care of the person and their quality of life is fundamental and for this reason we continue to support patient associations in creating activities dedicated to the psychophysical well-being of the person and also, obviously, the family”.
Finally, “another aspect on which we are actively engaged – concludes Cappellari – is the right of access to care so that inequalities in access to the care and tests necessary for patients are reduced” to have targeted therapies. “It is precisely by supporting events like today’s in Campania that we try to raise awareness among institutions at a regional level so that there is a more targeted management of patients’ needs”.
