The German footballer Toni Kroos announced this Tuesday, May 21, that he will retire from the sport at the end of the season. The Real Madrid idol still has two great competitions left to seal his career: the final of the Champions League and the Euro Cup.
“July 17, 2014, the day of my presentation at Real Madrid, the day that changed my life. My life as a footballer, but above all as a person. It was the beginning of a new life in the biggest Club in the world. “Today, after 10 years, at the end of the season, this life comes to an end,” Kroos wrote.
The German added that not only is it the end of his career as a ‘merengue’ but that he made the decision to ‘hang up his hats’. “This decision means that my career as an active footballer will end this summer after the European Championship.. As I have always said, Real Madrid is and will be my last club,” he said.
Regarding Kroos’ decision, Real Madrid expressed its gratitude and affection and pointed out that he is a player who is already part of the club’s history. In a message he described him as one of the great ‘merengues’ legends.

“Toni Kroos arrived at our club in 2014, and has been a fundamental player in one of the most successful periods in the 122 years of history of Real Madrid. During the ten seasons in which he has defended our shirt and our shield, he has achieved To date, 22 titles in 463 games: 4 European Cups, 5 Club World Cups, 4 European Super Cups, 4 Leagues, 1 Copa del Rey and 4 Spanish Super Cups,” Real Madrid highlighted about their record.

“Today I am happy and proud to have found in my head and in my heart the right moment for this decision. My ambition was always to finish my career at the top of my level,” Kroos said.
In the message addressed to Real Madrid fans, the footballer stated that there is only one thought in his head: “Let’s go for 15! GO TO MADRID AND NOTHING ELSE!”, he mentioned, referring to the Champions League final on the first of June.
