Pogacar praises Nairo Quintana’s sensational stage in the Giro d’Italia, but criticizes his past mistakes

“As a child I saw Nairo Quintana and having seen it next to me, reaching it and then seeing it in the distance is a source of pride for me,” said the Slovenian rider, leader of the Italy spin.

But not everything was praise, as he launched a touch of criticism for the Colombian for those mistakes of the past, which did not allow him to win a Tour de France.

“When I watched cycling, I always got angry with Quintana because he always waited too long to attack. Today he had a great stage, and Steinhauser has also performed at a high level,” said the 25-year-old runner.

On the other hand, Pogacar spoke about his feelings after the victory and stated that he did not feel very well: “Despite the advantage, I cannot say that it was the best day of my career. I did not feel well all day. It has been a beautiful route, with nice climbs. Livigno is one of my favorite places in Italy. We had this route in mind since December,” he said.

And he added: “I spoke with Majka and Felix because we had to be smart and not allow the fugitives to go too far. Rafal did a very good job. When I took command I attacked to be able to open differences. That’s what I did, and that’s how I continued until the finish line”.
