“The importance of also allowing pharmacies to administer vaccinations is linked to a simple theme: at the moment we have an extraordinary means of carrying out prevention, we know how essential prevention is also to keep the accounts of the National Health Service in balance and therefore that pharmacies can, like general practitioners and paediatricians of free choice, carry out a vaccination is a fact of civilisation, in line with the fragmentation necessary to give citizens a wider opportunity to get vaccinated, so as to preserve themselves and the health and state accounts”. This was said by Andrea Mandelli, president of the Federation of Italian Pharmacist Orders – Fofi, in Milan on the sidelines of the event ‘Towards full implementation of the service pharmacy. What contribution to improving the quality of life of citizens’, created by Federfarma Lombardia and The European House-Ambrosetti, with the non-conditioning contribution of GSK, MSD, Pfizer and Teva.
“As regards the experience of the Marche Region, I would say that it is a very important experience – explains Mandelli – Governor Acquaroli took the opportunity to use pharmacists to increase vaccination coverage and I would say that the experiment had a very important success. What is important to underline is the fact that the citizen appreciates this ability to be able to choose the moment of vaccination. It is clear that having the pharmacy adopting extended opening hours and pharmacists always present in the area, even on Saturdays or Sundays Sunday, also offers an extraordinary possibility to raise our country’s vaccination coverage, which is not exactly at good levels”, he concludes.
