Microsoft has just announced that it has launched a new studio in Poland, Elsewhere Entertainmentformed by veterans who have worked on series such as The Last of Us, Witcher and Cyberpunk. More precisely, the studio will operate under Activision. Its focus will be on the development of new triple-A intellectual properties.
The good news comes after the closure of four development studios, belonging to the circle of Zenimax / Bethesdaincluding Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin.
The launch of Elsewhere Entertainment is strategic for Microsoft and Activision, who want to exploit the new talents of the increasingly strong Polish video game industry, driven by the results of CD Projekt and countless other companies (think of Techland), as well as by a careful program of political support. Furthermore, it should be emphasized that the local salaries are lower than elsewhere, resulting in savings on development costs.
A new series from Warsaw
Based on Warsaw, Elsewhere Entertainment is Activision’s second studio in that region. The other is Infinity Ward Krakow. The substantial difference is that the new reality will not work on the Call of Duty series, but will deal with new intellectual properties. Furthermore, some resources at its disposal are also located in the United States.
As mentioned, among the founders stand out developers of famous series such as The Last of Us, Uncharted, The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Far Cry and others.
“Built from the ground up, Elsewhere Entertainment is a premier, independent studio dedicated to establishing an environment that inspires bold, diverse ideas. The team’s core mission is to encourage everyone to explore and collaborate creatively to create a series with a lasting legacy that resonates far beyond games.
The new studio has full access to Activision’s resources and tools as it continues to enhance production and development. Elsewhere is looking for talent from across the industry and around the world to help create a cutting-edge, next-generation gaming experience.”
An Activision Blizzard representative told Windows Central that Elsewhere Entertainment’s first game will be a gtriple A narrative game, from a completely new series. The title is not yet known and, naturally, there is still no talk of a possible presentation and release date.
