In Mexico, the theft of insured vehicles has experienced a 2% increase in the last year, with a total of 61,849 units stolen, which is equivalent to an average of 169 vehicles stolen each day.
This figure exceeds 60,561 vehicles stolen in the previous periodaccording to data provided by the Mexican Association of Insurance Institutions (AMIS).
Despite this increase, the recovery rate remained constant, with 42% of the vehicles being recovered, adding a total of 25,791.
The states of Mexico with the highest incidence of this crime continue to be the State of Mexico, Jalisco and Mexico City.
However, there has been a notable increase in violence associated with these robberies in states such as Sinaloa, Zacatecas and Puebla.
Additionally, during the period from May 2023 to April 2024, the states of Tamaulipas, Guerrero, Morelos, Nayarit and Tabasco saw significant increases in the number of stolen vehicles, with Tamaulipas leading with a 60.21% increase.
Regarding the type of vehicles most affected, automobiles lead the list with 34,637 thefts. They are followed by pick-ups, heavy-duty vehicles and motorcycles.
According to AMIS, the Nissan Versa remains the most stolen car in the countrywith 2,757 units stolen in the last year.
It is followed by the NP300, also from Nissan, with 2,613 thefts. The Kenworth trailer, the Chevrolet Aveo sedan and the Honda CVR complete the top five most stolen vehicles.
