A recent Kinda Funny interview with Dom Matthews, Studio Head of Ninja Theoryhas revealed what many have probably suspected for some time, considering the development times, namely that at the time of the release of the first trailer Of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2in fact there was nothing about the game yet real.
As you will remember, the first and spectacular trailer for Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 was shown during The Game Awards 2019, to accompany the surprise announcement of the Xbox Series Phil Spencer at the event, so much so that he wasn’t even in the show’s rehearsals.
The game was in fact the first title to be announced for the new Microsoft console, but it arrives on the market four years after its release, which shows how at the time of the presentation it was development was only just beginningand this was confirmed by Matthews.
The preliminary trailer has specific functions
“When we announced it in 2019, there was that trailer but that was basically all we had on the game, and development began from that point on,” reported the head of Ninja Theory, effectively giving some sense to the release timing of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2.
In the modern industry, trailers launched well in advance are a fairly widespread trend and have very specific functions: it is not just a matter of advertising the production of a game that is still in its infancy, giving visibility to the team, but they also serve to promote studies in the workplace.
Releasing a trailer this early can create interest in the team and stimulate developers to get in touch with this, sort of job announcement generic. To all this, obviously, was added the need to present an impactful title together with a new console like the Xbox Series
Considering the complexity of the game in question, especially in technical terms, it is therefore understandable that it took another five years from that first vision to be able to arrive at the complete game, whose development could still have started immediately after the release of the first Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, which occurred in 2017.
In the end, we are now at the gates of launch of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 and we remember the unlock times of the game with release set for May 21st on PC and Xbox Series
