Palestino’s arrival in the country also shook social networks after the president of Colombia himself, Gustavo Petro, left a comment on his ‘X’ account inviting social barrismo to be present in the Copa Libertadores match.
“This Tuesday Millonarios vs Palestino in Bogotá. Let that social neighborhood be expressed,” the president wrote in comment on a publication from another account in which a call was made to support the Palestino club in this Copa Libertadores match.
IDRD clarifies
In the midst of this scenario, the version spread this Tuesday that the National Government had tried to promote the entry of a giant Palestinian flag into the El Campín stadium, to take advantage of the international framework of the Copa Libertadores. According to press reports, the Government would have made the request before the Committee for Safety, Comfort and Coexistence in Football, but this would have been rejected by order of Conmebol, which in its regulations does not allow political demonstrations in its competitions. However, the IDRD clarified this Tuesday, before the game, that it did not receive any request from the Government to advance this process.
“Faced with journalistic versions that indicate an alleged request from the President, Gustavo Petro to the district administration or IDRD to display a giant flag of Palestine in the framework of the match between Millonarios and Palestino for the Copa Libertadores to be played at the El Campín stadium starting on “We can confirm that we have not received any request from the Presidency. Likewise, it is important to clarify that the South American Football Confederation, by direct order of FIFA, does not allow any demonstrations of a political or associated nature.” said the IDRD.
