NVIDIA and MediaTek have partnered to create a new ARM SoC that can compete with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite.
According to a recent report, MediaTek And NVIDIA have started a collaboration for the creating a new ARM SoC with advanced AI capabilities that can compete in the growing AI-based PC market.
The chip could therefore become a direct competitor of Snapdragon X Elite, the expected SoC developed by Qualcomm. Let’s find out all the details together.
A new SoC on the way
Analysts predict exponential growth in the AI PC segment between now and 2027 and more and more manufacturers want to grab their share of the market. According to a report by Economic News Daily, NVIDIA and MediaTek have entered into a partnership for the development of a new ARM chip that can compete with the main competitors and in particular with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite, recently tested by Control.
The two companies had already collaborated in the past for the production of chips dedicated to the automotive world.
According to reports, the SoC – as yet unnamed – is expected to use the process productive at 3 nanometers second generation from TSMC, just like the new Apple M4.
The chip design is expected to be finalized in the third quarter of the current year, with the verification phases expected in the fourth and with the start of production in the first part of 2025.
What can we expect?
The excellent results achieved by MediaTek in recent years, in particular with the Dimensity 9300, combined with NVIDIA’s skills in the field of artificial intelligence and graphics, could give us a new SoC capable not only of competing with the competition, but even capable to amaze in terms of performance.
According to the report, the chip from NVIDIA and MediaTek may have a unit price of $300, which would make it a rather expensive component. At the moment, however, there is no further information available and we will have to wait for future communications. As always we will keep you updated.
