Xóchitl Gálvez, presidential candidate of the PAN, PRFI and PRD, launched harsh accusations against President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, stating that his intervention is affecting equity in the upcoming elections.
In a meeting with magistrates of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation, Gálvez expressed his concern about what he considers interference by the president in favor of Claudia Sheinbaum.
“I still think that the President has greatly affected my candidacy with statements that were false, saying that they wanted to eliminate social programs, when he knows that this is false, alleging corruption problems of my person that have never existed,” he expressed.
“And from all of that, the President influences, he gets involved in the candidacy in the election openly in favor of his candidate. And well, what we have told the magistrates, this is not an even floor, this, there is no even floor “
The candidate of the Fuerza y Corazón por México coalition maintains that the president’s partiality creates an unequal terrain for the contenders, which contradicts the principles of electoral equity.
Despite these accusations, polls continue to show Sheinbaum in the lead, with a 20-point advantage over Gálvez.
In addition, the opposition candidate has filed a lawsuit for non-compliance with the National Electoral Institute (INE) in relation to the violence in Michoacán and Tamaulipas, demanding additional measures to guarantee security during the electoral process.
Gálvez has also requested 51 precautionary measures against the President to prevent his intervention in the elections, of which 17 have been confirmed.
However, López Obrador continues to hold his morning conferences, known as ‘mañaneras’, despite requests from the opposition to suspend them during the electoral period.
With more than 98 million voters called to renew thousands of federal and state offices, the June elections are shaping up to be the largest in Mexican history.
