According to what was reported by a well-known SEGA and Atlus leaker, Midori, Nintendo has a project in production known by the code name of “U-King-O“. It could be one conversion for Switch 2 (unofficial name of the next big N platform) by The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild.
The reason behind this hypothesis can be seen in the pair of tweets below. User Skipp93653 explains that U-King is the codename used for The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. The Nintendo Switch version of the game, however, is internally cataloged as U-King-S. “-S” is used by Nintendo to indicate Switch ports, but “-O” has never been used before, so the conclusion is that it’s a reference to the next console.
Skipp93653 ago the example of Captain Toadin another tweet, explaining that the Wii U version of the game was known as Kinopio, while the Switch version was Kinopio-S and the 3DS version was Kinopio-C (“-C” is always used for the 3DS version of a conversion ).
Switch 2 and The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild: can it be done?
Obviously you have to take this information with a grain of salt. While it all sounds sensible, there are a number of things to take into consideration. First of all, we must assume that Midori has shared correct information. It’s easy to take a game’s codename and create a variant of it by knowing how Nintendo creates port names.
Furthermore, assuming that the initial information is correct, This does not mean that the reasoning is correct. “-O” could refer to Nintendo’s next console, just as it could refer to anything else. We have no confirmation of what this means at this time.
That said, Nintendo usually makes conversions of their games and, let’s remember, The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild was created to also work on Wii U: a Switch 2 version would be two generations later and therefore could offer a significant graphic leap, thus justifying the operation.
For now there is nothing left to do but wait for official news or denials. In the meantime, we can admire an artwork that celebrates the first birthday of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
