Ferrari throws away the mask: here is the SF-24 Evo equipped with technical updates that will make its debut in Imola. The Cavallino team uses the second filming day in Fiorano granted by the regulations to carry out commercial filming with the new HP logo on the bodywork and wings.
The day actually began with a run by the F1-75 driven by Arthur Leclerc, the Scuderia’s third driver who should alternate with Ollie Bearman.

The Scuderia therefore takes the opportunity to evaluate the new aerodynamic package which should allow the red team to make an important leap in quality to chase Max Verstappen’s Red Bull, now that even McLaren, victorious in Miami, seems to have outperformed pure SF-24.
Fred Vasseur wanted to respect the scheduled plans with three major developments planned throughout the championship and the first will make its appearance on the track at the Enzo e Dino Ferrari for the Made in Italy and Emilia Romagna GP. The technicians led by the track manager, Matteo Togninalli, will be able to collect the data to verify on the home track that there is full correlation between the wind tunnel, the simulation systems and the real single-seater engaged with the two starting drivers.

Charles Leclerc started work this morning: he will race 100 km in the morning, while Carlos Sainz will be on duty in the afternoon. The Monegasque has begun to gain confidence with Bryan Bozzi, the new track engineer who replaced Xavi Marcos.

Ferrari has changed its face by moving closer to the concepts of the Red Bull RB20 then taken up by the McLaren MCL38. We repeat that the bellies with the visor instead of the tray in front of the radiator mouth is not the result of a copycat after seeing the first images of Adrian Newey’s car, but of the winter technicians’ market. Some representatives of Milton Keynes, who arrived in Maranello in December, had anticipated the innovations of the RB20 which were then evaluated by the aerodynamicists.

The objective is to increase the downforce without affecting the aerodynamic efficiency: the new entry of the bellies, with a decidedly narrower radiator cooling intake, allows a different flow pattern, favoring a greater passage of air in the undercut and reducing therefore, the undercut of the side which has been taken to extremes without moving the radiating masses, but by adapting the ducts to the new shapes.

It is not surprising, therefore, that the upper part of the belly also has a different design, partially renouncing the channel that characterized the SF-24 at birth, to improve the efficiency of the beam wing, in the hope of being able to reduce the resistance of the rear wing. The bonnet has also been revised with an additional micro socket (perhaps to cool the clutch better?) on the fin behind the camera on the roll bar.
The bazooka has been redesigned and is more inflated in the central part: it carries a greater quantity of hot air to be disposed of at the tail.
The bottom is completely new in every part: from the design of the Venturi channels to the diffuser, passing through the pavement and this is the actual element that should allow the leap in quality so sought after by the engineers coordinated by Enrico Cardile.
There is also a new front wing that works more in synergy with the new aerodynamics of the bellies…
Ferrari arrives last to bring news among the top teams: in Maranello they didn’t want to anticipate anything in the two races with the Sprint Race format. In reality, some ready parts were not assembled because they had not passed all the quality tests that the Cavallino procedures require.
The feeling is that the Scuderia has reaction times that are increasingly more like… an industry and less and less like a racing team. A characteristic that Red Bull Racng and McLaren did not want to lose, seeking one of the tools to grow in rapid growth.
The Racing Department treads carefully and wants to bring into the car only solutions that can give a certified performance advantage. Beyond Vasseur’s prudent words after Miami, which downplayed the value of the updates, the hope is that in Imola Ferrari can measure a visible leap on the clock even on a track that on paper does not suit the characteristics of the red…
