Ramallah (Al-Ittihad)
Yesterday at dawn, thousands of extremist Israeli settlers stormed the town of Kifl Haris, north of the city of Salfit in the occupied West Bank, under heavy protection by Israeli forces.
Local sources reported that large Israeli army forces stormed the town early yesterday, and began closing its roads and obstructing the movement of pedestrians, in preparation for the arrival of vehicles carrying thousands of settlers, including a number of relatives of soldiers killed in Gaza, and army commanders. The sources added that the settlers stormed the area of the shrines of “Nabi Kifl, Prophet Nun, and Prophet Joshua.” It is noteworthy that settlers usually intend to storm mosques and religious shrines, provoke the feelings of Palestinians, and incite riots there.
The town of Kifl Haris is subject to constant raids, as groups of extremist settlers deliberately storm the area, under the pretext that it contains sacred places for them.
The town of Kifl Haris is known for its abundance of religious monuments, and includes the graves of a number of prophets, in addition to historical shrines.
In this context, the Director of the United Nations Human Rights Office in the Palestinian Territory, Ajith Sonjay, said that Israeli forces protect settlers who attack Palestinians in the West Bank.
