Konami announced its financial results for the 2023-24 fiscal year and the numbers are very positive. According to Konami’s official statement, the company has registered a profit increase of 69.6% compared to the previous yearwith 59.2 billion yen in profits and 360.3 billion in overall revenue (the latter representing a 14.6% increase from the previous year).
According to Konami documents, this increase was driven largely by “record peaks in the digital entertainment sector“, i.e. mainly PC, console and mobile games.
Additionally, Konami plans a further increase in revenue for next yearforecasting revenue of 380 billion yen and a further increase in profits, albeit a rather modest one, of 2.2%.
The successes of Konami video games
In the digital entertainment sector, in particular, Konami recorded revenues of 249.1 billion yen, equal to increase of 16.7% compared to last year’s total.
Konami says the launches of major projects like Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 and Silent Hill: The Short Message have contributed to the success (though it’s worth noting that The Short Message is a free-to-play game, so technically it did not generate revenue).
Konami also reports good results for eFootball 2024which is the most recent version of its live-service sports game: this update arrived in September.
Even the game Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel has been well received, with 60 million downloads to date, according to Konami.
This year Konami also recorded a major leap forward in the gaming sector.entertainment, with a revenue increase of 35.3% compared to the previous year (26.4 billion yen compared to 19.5 billion in 2023). The term “entertainment” refers to pachislot and pachinko games, but also includes arcade games and even esports.
