Call of Duty It is one of the most profitable franchises in the video game industry. Even when a title receives a negative reception from critics, sales are high, to the point that on the list of the best-selling games of each year we find one of these games. Now, many are looking forward to the franchise’s arrival on Xbox Game Pass. However, It looks like this might not happen at the end of the day.
According to a new report by The Verge, Xbox is debating bringing the new Call of Duty installments to Game Pass day one. Those who oppose the idea, argue that Call of Duty revenue for Activision Blizzard and, by extension, Microsoft, would be severely affected for the launch in this subscription service.
Although the purchase of Activision Blizzard was announced more than a year ago, and was completed a couple of months ago, at the moment there is no great offer from these companies in Game Pass, beyond Diablo IV. Although the possibility of seeing the next Call of Duty day one on this service is still up in the air, It’s strange that classic deliveries are not available yetespecially considering that it didn’t take long for ZeniMax Media properties to arrive on this platform.
This report makes clear Xbox’s contradictions with Game Pass. Being such a large and important franchise, Call of Duty could increase the number of Game Pass subscribers, but this also means that a huge amount of money that can only be achieved with pre-orders, deluxe editions and additional content, would be lost. We can only wait to see what will happen with Call of Duty in the future. On related topics, Xbox Game Pass would increase in price. Similarly, Xbox Game Pass did not have growth in the last year.
Author’s Note:
Xbox is between a rock and a hard place on this issue. Bringing Call of Duty to Game Pass would mean an increase in subscribers, but it would also mean a loss of substantial revenue. However, if this is not done, it would be a clear contradiction to the model they have pushed in recent years.
