The interim president of León, Jorge Jiménez Lona, revealed that the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) issued a worrying warning: there could be more blackouts in the city due to the increase in energy demand throughout the country. As explained by the National Energy Control Center, Tuesday’s blackout was a direct result of the need to satisfy the energy demand generated by the intense heat wave that is hitting Mexico.
For approximately 48 minutes, several neighborhoods and boulevards of Lion They were plunged into total darkness, which created a favorable scenario for a series of unfortunate accidents. Faced with this situation, the National Energy Control Center (Cenace) made the decision to reduce the energy available in the municipality by 5%, further aggravating the situation.
The reaction of the local authorities was immediate. The Secretariat of Public Security, Protection and Citizen Prevention has announced the implementation of a special operation to address the possibility of future blackouts in the city. Jorge Guillén Rico, Secretary of Security, reported that additional measures were deployed on Tuesday, including intervention in six key intersections with the participation of the Highway Police.
