Apple has announced the new iPad Air 11-inch and iPad Air 13-inch, equipped with the M2 chip, which will be available in stores starting May 15th. The new iPad Air models are therefore available for the first time in two different sizes, and in four colors: blue, purple, galaxy and space gray. The 11-inch model is ideal for those looking for an easily portable device, while the new 13-inch format offers 30% more screen space, making it particularly suitable for work that requires a larger viewing area such as jotting down ideas in apps like Freeform or using multiple applications at the same time with iPadOS’ Split View feature.
Both models have the same Liquid Retina display with anti-reflective coating as the previous generation, True Tone technology for more natural white, high brightness and a wide P3 color gamut. iPad Air now gains a 12MP ultra-wide-angle front camera positioned on the long side, ideal for video calls. The Automatic Framing function, using machine learning, keeps the subject in the center of the field of view. The 12MP rear camera supports 4K video recording and slow-motion at 240 fps. Plus, the stereo speakers deliver spatial audio, with the 13″ model having double the bass.
The M2 chip, with an 8-core CPU and a 10-core GPU, is 50% faster than its predecessor with the M1 chip and three times more powerful than the model with the A14 Bionic chip. This chip dramatically improves the iPad’s AI capabilities, with a 16-core Neural Engine that’s 40 percent faster than the M1. The new iPad Air supports Wi-Fi 6E and 5G, allowing ultra-fast connections both at home and on the move. It is also eSIM compatible, which makes it easy to use multiple data plans on the same device. As for accessories, the Apple Pencil Pro (149 euros) introduces new interactions such as pressing on the barrel to change tools or colors, and a haptic sensor that provides immediate feedback. iPad Air is compatible with the Magic Trackpad but not the new aluminum version, which remains exclusive to the Pro models. The starting price for the 11″ iPad Air is 719 euros, while the 13″ model starts from 969 EUR.
