The Brazilian city of Porto Alegre is currently experiencing serious flooding due to heavy rains. According to reports from the authorities, the climate disaster leaves, so far, a balance of 57 dead and 67 missing. About 32 thousand people had to be evacuated.
The city center was completely flooded due to the overflowing of the Guaiba River, which raised its level to 5.09 meters, the worst mark since the floods that Porto Alegre suffered in 1941, when it rose to 4.76.
Nearly 350,000 people were left without power service and, in addition, there was an explosion at a gasoline station, in which two people died. The access roads to Porto Alegre were also seriously affected. The Salgado Filho airport was also flooded.
In the midst of this panorama, The South American Football Confederation expressed its solidarity with the tragedy and suspended the games of its international club tournaments that the clubs of that city were to play next week.
Gremio, which plays in the Copa Libertadores, had to visit Huachipato of Chile this Wednesday, while Internacional, in the Sudamericana, had to face Real Tomayapo, of Bolivia.
It is worth remembering that Colombian striker Rafael Santos Borré is playing in Internacional de Porto Alegre, who arrived two months ago after his time at Werder Bremen.
