As part of its celebration of International Midwives Day, which falls on May 5th every year, the Emirates Health Services Corporation continues to combine awareness, education, encouragement, and improving the practical environment, to stimulate the trend towards the profession of midwifery and increase interest in it in society.
The Foundation organized various community events and activities to introduce the role of midwives and encourage women to benefit from the services provided by them, in addition to enhancing cooperation with official authorities and relevant organizations to support and enhance the midwifery profession.
Dr. Sumaya Mohammed Al Balushi, Director of the Nursing Department at the Emirates Health Services Corporation, and Chairman of the National Committee for Nursing and Midwifery Affairs, confirmed that midwives play a pivotal role in promoting maternal and childhood health in society by implementing some initiatives aimed at improving the care of pregnant women and infants. The Foundation has launched initiatives to encourage orientation towards the profession of midwifery, explaining that the “Hello My Baby” initiative is among the initiatives that aim to provide intensive health education to pregnant women about breastfeeding, through an electronic platform, intensive educational materials that include important topics such as signs of hunger in the infant, and ways to Evaluating the breastfeeding efficiency of the infant, and guidelines for discovering and treating breastfeeding problems that mothers and infants may face, as the content is presented in three languages, namely Arabic, English and Urdu, in addition to the “We take care of you at home” initiative, which plays a vital role in enhancing the health of mothers and infants by providing a visit. A virtual home program aimed at early detection of health problems and providing the necessary care, which contributes to improving health outcomes and enhancing comprehensive care in society.
