Yesterday, the Chinese Red Cross announced that it had donated $100,000 to the office of the Vice President of the Afghan Red Crescent to support flood victims. The Chinese ambassador in Kabul said that the country’s Red Cross deposited this amount with the office of Mullah Nour al-Din Turabi, deputy head of the Afghan Red Crescent, according to the Afghan Khaama Press agency. China had also previously announced that it would send 100 million yuan to address “humanitarian challenges.” China’s relations with Afghanistan have been good in the past two years, and its officials have repeatedly visited Afghanistan to expand political and economic relations with the Afghan authorities.
In the past two years, China has also helped Afghanistan in the areas of education, health, construction, and sending humanitarian aid. The Ministry of State for Natural Disaster Response of the interim government in Afghanistan announced on April 17 that the death toll due to the floods that recently swept the country had risen to 66 people. The ministry added that as a result of the floods that recently swept the country, 600 heads of livestock died, and 235 homes were damaged. It is noteworthy that Afghanistan is suffering the effects of decades of conflict and one natural disaster after another, including floods and earthquakes.
