Matteo Berrettini wins the ATP 250 tournament in Marrakech: Carballes Baena knocked out in two sets. Now Kecmanović in Monte Carlo
Matteo Berrettini is back. The Roman tennis player won the ATP 250 tournament in Marrakech, beating the Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena in the final in two sets on the Moroccan red clay, n.64 ATP and reigning champion, with a score of 7-5, 6-2 in one hour and 46 minutes. Berrettini returned to the field at the beginning of March after a seven and a half month stop due to injury, immediately winning the final in the ATP 125 in Phoenix, Arizona. And now this success in Marrakech which confirms its growth. Now head to the Monte Carlo tournament: Berrettini will make his debut on Tuesday 9 April against Miomir Kecmanović, number 50 in the world ranking. The only precedent between the two was in the round of 16 of Indian Wells in 2022: on that occasion the Serbian tennis player won after three hard-fought sets: 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-4.
In case of victory, he will challenge the Bulgarian in the second round Grigor Dimitrovworld number 9 (and recent finalist in Miami defeated by Sinner after beating Alcaraz and Zverev), and the wild card Valentin Vacherotn.141 in the ranking.

The 27 year old Roman, n.135 ATP, in the draw with the protected rankinghe returned as a protagonist in the last act of a tournament on the major circuit after a year and a half, from the ATP 250 in Naples, in October 2022 (when he lost against Lorenzo Musetti). For Berrettini it was the 13th final and this is the eighth title in Morocco (the last on grass at Queen’s in June 2022), the fourth on clay. Thanks to the points won the blue will rise to n.84 in the ATP ranking.
