The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment revealed the intensification of the efforts of the third phase of the “Anti-Mosquito Campaign”, in coordination with the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority and in cooperation with the relevant authorities in the country, including municipalities. The campaign was launched in its first phase in February 2022 and the current phase continues until May. 2025.
The third phase of the campaign comes within the framework of ensuring the elimination of hotspots that lead to an increase in the spread of mosquitoes, and reducing their spread in various sites and places. The country has also been exposed to increasing rates of rainfall recently, which has increased the spread of mosquitoes in water bodies and wet places.
In continuation of the efforts of the third phase of the “Anti-Mosquito Campaign”, the Ministry of Health and Community Protection and the Emirates Health Services Corporation are raising awareness about diseases caused by mosquitoes, and how to deal with them at the state level.
The third phase of the mosquito control campaign focuses specifically on spreading awareness among members of society and the private sector regarding efforts to eradicate mosquitoes and disseminating best practices and behaviors that support this trend.
The Ministry, in cooperation with the relevant authorities, is conducting investigations and monitoring hotspots that witness the spread of mosquitoes, as part of the efforts of the Ministry and its strategic partners to eliminate mosquitoes.
The sites targeted in the investigation and control process in various emirates of the country include construction sites, investment sites, horse stables, schools, farms, estates, gardens and parks, residential neighborhoods, racetracks, and wet places resulting from water accumulations.
For her part, Assistant Undersecretary for the Sustainable Communities Sector at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, Alia Abdul Rahim Al Harmoudi, said: “The Ministry is working to strengthen the UAE’s efforts to enhance its biological security and take proactive measures to achieve this goal in cooperation with all relevant authorities in the country. Efforts to combat mosquitoes represent one of Our most important goals during this period, as the completion of the third phase of the (anti-mosquito campaign) reflects a pillar for enhancing public awareness regarding the importance of contributing to reducing the spread of mosquitoes through various sustainable practices and behaviors, in addition to full cooperation with local authorities in this regard.”
She stressed that the Ministry will work during the coming period to provide all information, guidance and means of support to the community and help it limit the spread of mosquitoes through available communication channels, noting that the Ministry is employing its capabilities and resources and has qualified teams to deal with any developments or changes that lead to an increase in the spread of mosquitoes in various countries. She stressed that the Ministry periodically follows up efforts to combat the spread of mosquitoes, and cooperates with the competent authorities to find solutions to operational challenges in some areas. Stressing that with the combined efforts of the community and partners, we will be able to complete the third phase of the mosquito control campaign to the fullest extent within the specified period.

For her part, Director of the Municipal Affairs Department at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, Engineer Aziba Saeed Al-Qaidi, said: “The Ministry is keen to use the latest and best technical solutions to combat mosquitoes and limit their spread, while disseminating means of prevention and safety measures to reduce the spread of mosquitoes. The Ministry, in cooperation with the authorities, continues It is concerned with investigating and identifying the hotspots of mosquitoes’ spread, and ensuring that they do not reproduce in the places where the control has been carried out again.”
She added: “The Ministry employs the latest international technologies to combat mosquitoes according to the highest standards in areas where mosquitoes are widespread. There will be special attention to combating mosquitoes in water bodies, as they are widespread in these places.”
Al-Qaidi confirmed that all materials used to combat mosquitoes are safe and harmless to humans and animals, and are aimed only at eliminating mosquitoes.
Al-Qaidi pointed out some of the most important measures to prevent and limit the spread of mosquitoes, which are getting rid of stagnant water in irrigation basins, swimming pools, and fountains by drying them when not in use, covering them, or moving them periodically, in addition to repairing water leaks, which are the main source of mosquito life, and cleaning Places where rain collects and monitor pools of water to prevent the breeding and spread of mosquitoes around them. She also pointed out the need to stay away from large pools of water caused by the recent rains in the country, due to the possibility of mosquitoes spreading there more.
Al-Qaidi confirmed that during the coming period, the Ministry will publish more of the most important preventive measures and measures to limit the spread of mosquitoes.
