F1 | The “Saudade: the face of Senna” wall panel inaugurated

The large mural panel “Saudade: the face of Senna”, created by the artist Stefano Pierotti, was inaugurated in Imola and was mounted on the wall of the Acer building (public housing), in via Cenni 10.

The sculptor Stefano Pierotti donated the wall panel to the City of Imola, expressing the desire “that the work be installed in a popular context, thus respecting the same values ​​expressed by Senna”. Furthermore, in that area there are already murals on the facades of the adjacent buildings.

The large wall panel (3.33 meters base and 4.20 meters high, with a thickness of approximately 4 cm), was specially created by Pierotti on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Senna's death, as a link of memory which, starting from that dramatic day, it continues until the creation of the monument “to Ayrton Senna”, inaugurated on 26 April 1997, and placed in the Parco delle Acque Minerali to be updated with today's artistic intervention.

The Municipality of Imola, 30 years after the death of Ayrton Senna, has in fact intended to remember the great Brazilian champion with a new project by the artist Stefano Pierotti, author of the monument dedicated to Senna. The project is part of a rich calendar of events entitled “Senna 30 years”, organized by the Municipality of Imola in collaboration with the “Instituto Ayrton Senna”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Emilia Region -Romagna to remember the tragic death of Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger in the 1994 San Marina GP.

The work “Saudade: the face of Senna”, which is part of the series defined by the author as “Iron pictures”, is composed of seven sheets of Corten iron 1 mm thick, cut and welded onto wire mesh, then painted. Pierotti portrayed Ayrton's face, freely taking inspiration from a shot by photographer Ercole Colombo, taken at sunset during the tests in April 1994, in Imola.

“A huge thank you to Stefano Pierotti – said the mayor Marco Panieri -, for wanting to donate this splendid new work of his to the City of Imola. Thirty years later, in the memory of a great man and champion like Ayrton Senna, the streets of the artist Stefano Pierotti and our city meet again after the important monument which was inaugurated in the Mineral Water Park in 1997 and which today our city throughout the world”.
