Stellantis was forced to stop production in three of its European plants. This was announced by a spokesperson for the Italian-French group, who spoke to Reuters about two French factories and one British one, referring respectively to those of Poissy and Hordain and to that of Luton. “All three sites have experienced production shutdowns since the beginning of the week”the spokesperson explained.
Stop Stellantis production
The interruption of assembly operations it should last a few days, and is related to a strike at a factory operated by the supplier MA France, a division of the Italian CLN group which specializes in pressed metal parts. Notably, MA France produces components at a site in the north-eastern suburbs of Paris, the same one that was previously used by PSA until its closure in 2014.
The reasons for the strike
It is not clear when the situation will return to normal, also because the workers of the plant in question involved in the strike are still quite worried about the plans to move production to Poland: This was stated by Brahim Aitathmane, head of the Force Ouvriere union of Stellantis. The Italian-French group is hoping that the ongoing discussions at the factory will allow it to resume production soon, a company spokesperson added.
