Pedrosa's return
In the Spanish Grand Prix last season we witnessed the return to the track of Dani Pedrosaat the first of his two weekends of that world championship as wild cards from the KTM. One year later, the Spaniard is now ready to play another weekend in front of his home crowd Jerez de la Fronteradoing it at the age of 38 and with his compatriot Pedro Acosta as a teammate. The objective of the Austrian manufacturer's test driver will obviously be to repeat the notable results achieved last year (6th in the Sprint and 7th in the race), if not to improve them, but the former Honda rider's curiosity is all about Acosta, fresh from two consecutive podiums in Portimao and Austin: “I'm curious to be able to run with him – he admitted in an interview with AS – in the Sepang tests we tried to ride together, but he had a problem with the bike and we couldn't do it. I couldn't see it. He followed me for a lap or two, but when I was about to follow him he had the problem. Let's see if at some point we can find each other, and I hope he can give me a little guidance.”
Acosta winner?
Beyond this last joke, Pedrosa did not deny that he could witness not only a positive performance from the 'Tiburon', but also what could be his first victory in MotoGP: “I don't know how to answer this question, but according to what we have seen from his progression It would be possible, it's not impossible“. Speaking about KTM riders, Pedrosa also focused on the complexities of Brad Binder: “I don't think Binder has any difficulty – he specified – I think he's happy with the bike. Furthermore, I don't know the exact details of why he missed a race, like in Portugal, where he crashed in the sprint, or in Austin, where he failed to reach Q2 and did not start from a good position. I don't know the details, but at some point the setting of the bike and the circuit doesn't fit, but I think Pedro is giving good motivation to the other riders, and I think he will do well here. I haven't looked at Pedro's telemetry, but I hear that he brakes very, very well.”
The objectives for Jerez
In conclusion, Pedrosa did not want to provide specific expectations regarding this weekend: “I can't speak to your expectations or those of the fans, but so far our approach is the same as last year: we try to enjoy this weekend as much as possible and draw all conclusions from everything we have to verify – he added – these are things that we have already tested and we want to try them from a race perspective. If they go well, they can be tested by the official riders on Monday. They might help, but they're exactly the same as last year. As for expectations I can't speak, but I hope we can live up to it. You can't help yourself on the track. There's time to look at the telemetries after practice, but on the track, between the speed at which everything is going, the tyres, qualifying and trying to get through to Q2, there's not much time to help.”
Pedrosa's motorbike
The Spaniard, who also accepted the challenge launched by Jorge Lorenzo for a boxing match, will also have a prototype different from that of the other KTM riders, and which he will use to test some elements in view of 2025: “We are testing some things that are different from the bike, and you can see with the naked eye that it is different. Last year we did a good job and this allowed us to go a little further this season. Our engine is not exactly the same, but it is quite similar. It has some small differences. The plan is that if it goes well, they'll try on Monday“.
