The Red in pole position
Last March 6, from the pages of FormulaPassion.it, we told you about it concrete possibility for Adrian Newey to leave Red Bull and join Ferrari. The brilliant British designer, already close to arriving at Maranello several times in the past, was considering the possibility of ending his extraordinary career in Formula 1 with the Prancing Horse on his chest, nauseated by the internal power struggle at Red Bull.
The developments
Despite the ritual denials signed several times by Christian Horner in recent weeks, today there was a turning point – anticipated by Cars, Motor and Sport and relaunched by BBC – from the Adrian Newey's decision to leave Red Bull.
FormulaPassion.it can confirm, through qualified sources, that Ferrari and Adrian Newey have been in discussions for a long timeso much so that he also explored potential contractual terms and related gardening leave for the early farewell from Red Bull. Negotiations are at an advanced stage and there is cautious optimism for the long-awaited white smoke.
Newey renewed his contract with Red Bull last year and set the new deadline at the end of 2025, which is why it is reasonable to expect that the Anglo-Austrian team may offer some resistance – taken into account – upon early termination of the agreement.
And the rumors – source Red Bull al De Telegraaf – on a Newey who is increasingly out of love with the team, so much so that he only saw the 2024 single-seater on the day of its presentation, are to be seen in the context of no longer idyllic relations between the parties which have been going on for some time now.
The role
It is no mystery that Newey has refused to move to Maranello on several occasions in the past, deciding to do not move from England. Now at the age of 65 last December, the Prancing Horse would be the culmination of an unrepeatable parable in Formula 1 for Newey (he won 12 constructors' titles with Williams, McLaren, Red Bull, and 13 drivers' titles with Mansell, Prost, D.Hill, J.Villeneuve, Hakkinen, Vettel and Verstappen).
Ferrari is therefore thinking of convincing Newey by offering him a role as technical supervisor or super consultant, to give him all the freedom possible to unleash his brilliant creativity and thus beat the competition from Aston Martin and Mercedes, who can put the proximity of the English factories of Silverstone and Brackley into the balance – as well as a top driver's salary (at Red Bull he earns around 10 million dollars a year). But Ferrari is in pole position, barring sensational surprises.
