I recently saw a poster of a Campaign of “awareness” of the water use right next to an announcement about the acquisition of households in an acquaintance golf course in the south of the state; From this I present the following position:
In the midst of the growing water crisisthe rhetoric about water conservation It has become a constant echo in the media and in public policies. We are encouraged to take shorter baths, turn off the faucet while washing dishes, and feel guilty about every drop we use.
However, behind this water austerity campaign hides a deeply unjust reality: the political class and the economic elite continue enjoying luxurious golf courses that they waste water in obscene amountsgenerating a tremendous socioeconomic gap.
While the citizenship is subjected to a constant scrutiny about his water consumption At the domestic level, the political elites and Big Capital slide comfortably through their golf courses, in contrast to the sacrifice that is required of the rest of the population. A single golf course can consume hundreds of thousands of liters of water a day, an amount that dwarfs the average family's consumption for months, or even years. However, despite this obvious reality, these emblems of luxury do not seem to be touched by water conservation policies in the same way as the homes of the middle and lower classes. Why this disparity? The answer lies in a farce that reveals the true nature of a system that prioritizes privilege over responsibility, opulence over sustainability.
Water saving policies They focus on the individual, on blaming the families for their supposed excess of consumption, diverting attention from the true sources of waste. The hypocrisy of this situation is outrageous. We are told to reduce our bathing times while politicians and business moguls spend their weekends at luxurious golf clubs. We cannot allow Big Capital to escape unpunished while the rest of the world suffers from shortages. Water conservation policies must be applied equitably, without distinction of class or status. For the planet, for everyone, close golf courses during times of scarcity!
