The Bochicchio trial is not yet closed. On the contrary. Today, Tuesday 23 April, a hearing was scheduled at the Court of Rome before the investigating judge Daniela Caramico D'Auria in which the decision was awaited on the request for dismissal presented over a year ago by the Prosecutor's Office, but the judge for preliminary investigations has postponed by one month.
The investigating judge accepted the request for postponement due to legitimate impediment presented by the lawyer Cesare Placanica, who assists twenty-three civil parties including the coach Antonio Conte and the footballer Stephan El Sharawy.
The new hearing has been set for May 24. And in that case the civil parties – who oppose the request for dismissal – could ask to acquire new elements that would make a supplementary investigation necessary, thus effectively reopening the case.
The trial concerns the alleged scam set up by the broker Massimo Bochicchio, who allegedly defrauded his investors of over 400 million euros.
After the exit of the main suspect, who died in a road accident on 19 June last year, there are three remaining suspects: Bochicchio's brother, Tommaso, and his wife Arianna Iacomelli are accused of money laundering, while his longtime associate of the broker, Sebastiano Zampa, the hypothesis of the crime of fraud is pending.
The prosecutor Alessandro Di Taranto had requested the dismissal over a year ago, but from postponement to postponement the process has not yet been closed. At the hearing on May 24, the civil parties could ask to have new, unpublished documents included in the documents. In particular, some important news emerged from the docufilm “Anatomy of a scammer”, created by the journalist Salvatore Gulisano and aired last week on the La7 program “100 minutes”.
“I have doubts about the fact that Zampa knew nothing. The people who could see what was happening were there. I certainly wasn't the one who was in the office”, for example, Bochicchio's widow, Arianna Iacomelli, tells Gulisano.
Furthermore, in the docu-film, hedge fund expert Fabio Caleca is interviewed, according to whom “Zampa couldn't not have known”. Elements, these and others, which according to the civil parties could lead the investigating judge to reject the request for dismissal and order new investigations.
