The collision
A curious accident occurred under the Safety Car regime, with Lance Stroll that has buffered and irreparably damaged the Racing Bulls of Daniel Ricciardo. The Canadian was found guilty by the Race Direction, who gave him a 10 second penalty and a deduction of two points from his Superlicence licence.
Stroll's blunder seemed quite evident, with Max Verstappen barely holding back his laughter in the back podium, seeing the re-presentation of the images of what happened on the screens.
Aston Martin's defence
Mike Krack, team principal Aston Martin, wanted to defend his driver to the microphones di Sky Deutschland: “Unfortunately he wasn't able to avoid it and get out of the way. It was a bit like the last link in the chain etcI think it was all generated by Sainz up front. Everyone braked and they moved to the left, you can see it from the cars in front”. Krack then concluded: “In a situation like this, it can happen. I am surprised by the penalty, but they are decisions that must be accepted. Without the accident we would have scored both cars in the points.”
