Tonight's reports and investigations
The Meloni government has reached an agreement to send some of the migrants trying to enter Italy via the Mediterranean to Albania. Work began a few weeks ago on the construction of the two reception centers where, according to the Prime Minister's forecasts, around 36 thousand asylum seekers per year will be diverted. It is told in the reportage by Giorgio Mottola with the consultancy of Thimi Samarxhiu and the collaboration of Greta Orsi “(Hot)Spot Albanese” which opens the new appointment with Report, broadcast this evening, Monday 21 April at 8.55pm on Rai 3, with Sigfrido Ranucci .
As Report found, costs are already out of control. Compared to the 650 million euros initially budgeted for 5 years, the overall expenditure could exceed the threshold of 1 billion euros. And even the forecasts made by the government on the number of migrants seem too optimistic. Therefore, disproportionate amounts of money would be spent, compared to ordinary management costs in Italy, to send barely 3000 migrants to Albania per year who in any case will subsequently have to be transferred to Italy. But who will really benefit from this agreement? “Report” found some unexpected and disturbing responses in Albania, defined by many international observers as a “Narcostate” due to the strong influence of the Albanian mafia cartels on the government's activities. A mafia that has grown exponentially in recent years, also under the watchful eye of the Italian authorities.
Giorgio Mottola again with the collaboration of Greta Orsi signs “The holy reckoning. A few weeks ago Daniela Santanchè received two notices of the conclusion of investigations for INPS fraud and false accounting. However, the minister continues to maintain that she is completely unrelated to the management of Visibilia and the other companies involved in the investigations. “Report” is able to show new documents that would reveal the direct involvement of Daniela Santanchè and the strategies adopted to avoid paying the debts of her companies personally.
It ends with “Marble is perpetual” by Bernardo Iovene with the collaboration of Lidia Galeazzo and Greta Orsi. Carrara marble is a resource of incalculable value, but its exploitation has left a devastating impact on the environment and generated centuries-old conflicts over concessions. Even today, the controversy is over a phrase contained in the edict of Maria Teresa Cybo Malaspina, Duchess of Massa Carrara who, way back in 1751, granted the owners of the quarries a presumed perpetual right of extraction and ownership. The attempts of the municipality and the Tuscany Region to regulate the situation have produced no results, except appeals and civil lawsuits which have seen the entrepreneurs prevail, who still own 30% of the Carrara quarries, not paying the concession, creating a damage to the municipality of 4 million euros per year. Recently, the entrepreneurs who manage the remaining 70% of the quarries signed an agreement with the municipality, obliged by the 2015 regional law, which provides for public tenders every 25 years, but only from 2042. And the day after the signing, the same entrepreneurs have initiated legal actions to claim the alleged perpetual right mentioned in the Edict of 1751. It is a never-ending story, which takes place in an area where companies in the sector make millions in profits with a small number of employees and profit margins that exceed 50% of the turnover. An absolute anomaly in the industrial sector where companies normally have a much lower profit margin. Report awaits you this evening, Sunday 21 April 2024, in prime time from 8.55 pm on Rai 3.
