“Adult vaccination is under development in Italy. The institutions and the whole of society are considering this for the first time as an investment and not as an expense. We are seeing that the lack of vaccination coverage has a direct impact on the Italian economy; therefore, not investing in vaccination affects the country's growth. Italy should continue to invest in prevention because the resulting benefits have an impact on the economy and public health. We all age and we must do so healthily.” This was said by the CEO of GSK Italia, Fabio Landazabal, on the sidelines of an event in which the respiratory syncytial virus was discussed, organized by GSK in Rome.
On the continuous aging of the Italian population and the costs that this could have on the national health system, the CEO of GSK underlined that “we must see all this as an investment because even those over 50 and 60 are still productive and, therefore, we must guarantee that resources for prevention are correctly increased. In this way we will find the benefit for everyone. We must ensure that, in the next financial measure, investments in vaccinations are highlighted in order to guarantee adequate infrastructure for the new technology. We must take advantage of the infrastructure already present as well as pharmacies because the objective should be to facilitate vaccination so as to achieve ideal coverage and economic growth,” concluded Landazabal.
