We told you yesterday about how Nissan is investing on the track and on the road to advance its idea of electrifying mobility. Now the Japanese car manufacturer is taking a further step in this direction, announcing the setting up of the pilot production line solid state batteries in Japan.
Nissan strategy
The initiative, Nissan itself says, is part of its long-term vision Ambition 2030with the aim of launching new electric vehicles equipped with batteries by the fiscal year 2028. As mentioned, the focus of this latest operation concerns the pilot production line of solid-state batteries at the Yokohama plant, in the prefecture of Kanagawa, in Japan precisely: the Japanese company has made it known that it plans to use this type of battery in a wide range of productsincluding pick-ups.
Solid state batteries
“Solid-state batteries will represent a strong impulse to the spread of electric mobility, being characterized by double the energy density compared to that of conventional lithium-ion batteries, significantly shorter charging times and lower costs, thanks to the use of less expensive materials”highlights Nissan.
Even for pick-ups
Through this initiative, Nissan hopes to make its vehicles electric again more performing and competitive. “We are conducting wide-ranging research and development, from battery materials to new electric vehicles, to designing cities that use vehicles as storage batteries – concludes Nissan – The company is preparing to maximize the benefits of this experience with practical solutions that will be implemented in the short term“.
