The mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, and the Minister of Economy, Finance and Business, Luis Alberto Marín, together with the acting president of the Port Authority, Pedro Pablo Hernández, demanded this Wednesday from the Public Entity of Land (Sepes) the commercialization now of all the land of the future logistics activities zone (ZAL) of Los Camachos. These are the 111,000 square meters that will be free once the 165,000 square meters where the Free Warehouse and the Transport City will be located are urbanized.
The mayor highlighted the commitment of all the participants in the meeting and the opportunity that the new agreement represents to guarantee the development of the rest of the available land, “given the existing interest of companies and investors”, after the Port Authority of Cartagena already has acquired and transferred to the Transport Center-Free Warehouse.
The counselor stated that this is “a strategic project not only for the port city and the Region of Murcia, but also at the national level, due to its impact at a logistical and industrial level.” “We are taking new steps so that the ZAL becomes a key logistics point, which will help increase the competitiveness of companies, economic activity and employment in the area,” he added.
In this sense, Pedro Pablo Hernández emphasized the need for land for the implementation of companies in the port environment, something in his opinion, key to continue “transforming our port into a logistics hub of the 21st century, generating more opportunities and wealth not only for Cartagena but also for the Region.
During the meeting, the three entities took the opportunity to insist on the need to define and build as soon as possible the merchandise variant that links the ZAL with the Mediterranean Corridor. This is a request that they have made to the State on several occasions, “since if intermodality is not achieved, the storage area would remain only an industrial park,” they warned.
Commitment intact
The general director of Sepes, Leire Iglesias, indicated that “the commitment of the public land entity to the development of this project remains intact.” And she added that she has “worked, we are working and we will work on it, within our goal of attracting economic activity to all the territories in which we are present.” The meeting was at the Sepes headquarters, in Madrid.
