Finally home
The Chinese GP weekend will obviously be special for Zhou Guanyu, that he will finally be able to competing in Formula 1 for the first time in his career on his home track, after the stop linked to the Covid-19 pandemic had kept the Circus away from the most populous country on the planet for a long time. The dream of the Kick-Sauber driver would obviously be to be able to win right in front of the friendly public first points of his 2024, but the task will not be easy. However, for #24 the Chinese weekend will still have all the ingredients needed to arouse strong emotions.
Homage to Fernando
The person concerned has already revealed the special helmet that he will wear in the race and which pays homage to his idol, Fernando Alonso, and portrays an old photo of Zhou present inside the circuit on the occasion of the 2005 Chinese GP with a flag dedicated to the Asturian who became world champion for the first time that year. In the past few hours, however, the Chinese driver has published – this time on his social channels – another shot of himself.
Go Ferrari
Guanyu in this case is found in the stands of the track on the occasion of the first race ever held by F1 in China, in 2004wearing a Ferrari cap. You can also see a red flag, a sign of the sympathy that Zhou had for the Scuderia at the time. Curiously, a decade later, in 2014 and until the end of 2018, Zhou became part of the Ferrari Driver Academy, before migrating to the Renault Sport Academy program in 2019. This weekend, 20 years after that shot, the circle will be definitively closed.
