A total of 250 rental scooters and 50 electric bicycles were launched this Wednesday, as an alternative to conventional transportation, in fifty strategic locations in the urban area and peripheral neighborhoods.
The mayor, Fulgencio Gil, and the councilors of the Environment and Traffic, María Hernández and Juan Miguel Bayonas, supervised the implementation of the service which aims to prevent excessive use of private cars and “take another step to convert Lorca in a smart city,” said the mayor.
These clean energy vehicles can be found in points such as the Plazas de España, Caño, Colón and Real, on Alporchones Street and in the neighborhoods of La Viña, San Cristóbal, San Diego and Virgen de las Huertas. Also at the bus station “looking for intermodality,” said Gil.
This will allow tourists to leave their vehicles in park-and-ride parks on the outskirts and use bicycles and skates to travel around the city. For this reason, strategic areas susceptible to a massive presence of visitors and Lorca have been included, such as the Huerto de la Rueda weekly market or the El Gato area, where the National Police Corps police station is located.
Users will have a Mobile App to use these vehicles by scanning a QR code. The unlocking price is one euro and the cost of use is 0.25 cents per minute used, although discount vouchers will be applied. The launch of this rental transportation system includes a promotion with vouchers of 3.99 euros for two trips; vouchers of 4.99 euros for unlimited trips for one month with a cost per trip of two euros and bonuses of 14.99 euros with unlimited trips for one month with a cost per trip of one euro. There will also be special promotions for the purchase of helmets.
Gil added that in alert 3 situations due to poor air quality, measures will be taken to “promote sustainable transportation” and consideration will be given to implementing reduced rates or free unlocking of bikes and scooters during these periods.
He recalled that users must comply with the municipal ordinance regulating the circulation of personal mobility vehicles that sets the minimum age to drive them at 15 years and the obligation to wear a reflective vest.
The councilor highlighted that the new service will not entail any cost for the City Council since it will be managed by the company Grupo Mobility Spadimur, which operates in different cities in the country.
The data recorded during use will be shared with the Local Police and the Department of Mobility and the Environment for behavioral studies that will allow the service to be improved.
