Ferrari chasing Red Bull
After a weekend break, F1 is ready to return to the forefront China for the fifth act of the 2024 calendar, the first with a Sprint weekend which will put teams and drivers in the difficult position of having to decide on the set-up after just one free practice session.
Compared to last season, the Parc Fermé will be reopened after the Sprint before the Qualifying and therefore it will be possible to make changes to the set-up if necessary based on the data that will emerge from the 19 laps scheduled for the Sprint which will start on Saturday morning at 5am :00 Italian time. Ferrari is fresh from the good performance of Suzuka, the team principal of the Scuderia di Maranello Frederic Vasseur hopes to take another step forward in China to put even more pressure on Red Bull.
The first step will be to improve the Qualification: “We find the Shanghai track again after many years and undoubtedly what we have ahead of us is a very challenging weekend. We will have to deal with several concomitant factors: the current generation cars will be making their debut on this circuit, but we will only have one free practice session available before playing for positions on the Sprint starting grid. Another strong question mark will be linked to the conditions of the asphalt, which could be more bumpy than we remember. As always with this weekend format it will be essential to have worked well at home and as far as we are concerned we will also have to improve on the management of the preparation lap in qualifying, where recently we have not been perfect. The objective, with both Carlos and Charles, is to maximize the potential of the car and bring home a solid result while trying to put pressure on our rivals“.
