Last year, at this time, Marco Bezzecchi had won his first MotoGP victory in Argentina and was without a doubt one of the candidates for the title. 12 months later, with expectations that had inevitably become higher, the bearer of the Pertamina Enduro VR46 can only be placed among the disappointments of this start to the season, even if he has the excuse of a Desmosedici GP23 which seems to have sunk the strengths of his driving style.
In terms of results, the weekend in Austin was in line with the two previous outings and therefore lacking in satisfaction. A crash in qualifying relegated him to tenth place on the grid and this complicated his Sprint, because in the middle of traffic he found himself pushed off the track at the second corner and finished 13th. Things went a little better on Sunday, when he managed to take home an eighth place, at the end of a race which at least allowed him to see the glass half full in terms of the feeling with his Ducati which seems to be in growth.
“It's difficult to be happy with an eighth place, but this weekend we made some improvements, so at least we have to be happy about this. We can't expect to go straight to the front with the level we've shown up to here, but I've improved a lot in different aspects of driving, so I think there are some positive points in this weekend. Obviously it's not the result I would have wanted, but it's a starting point,” Bezzecchi said at the conclusion of the Grand Prix of the Americas.

With the next event we will return to “normal” a bit, because the MotoGP will return to Europe, in Jerez. Among other things, the Andalusian circuit will also host a day of testing on the Monday following the Grand Prix, which could be fundamental for those like “Bez” who are still looking for the right feeling with the bike.
“The test can be very important for me, I hope so. Last year when we stopped to ride I had nothing to test, except the starts. This time however I think I will try many things. But already over the course of the weekend we will try to do another step and improving the feeling I have on the bike will be important, then we will return to Europe and the atmosphere there is always fantastic”, he concluded.
