New information about the unannounced continues to pop up online PS5 Pro from Sonythat is, an enhanced model not too dissimilar to what was PS4 Pro for the basic PS4.
Precisely this last comparison seems increasingly appropriate considering the latest details shared by The Verge, according to which the PS5 Pro will serve to make it easier to reach 60 FPS and 4K. The publication also delves into how Sony will catalog “PS5 Pro Enhanced” games, but that's not what we want to talk about now.
A little leap forward is more than fine
The most notable part is the fact that a game that normally doesn't reach a fixed 60 FPS will be able to do so more consistent and that games aiming for up to 4K dynamic resolution will be able to maintain the maximum value more often. All this would be achieved “automatically” with an “ultra-boost” function, however not applicable to every game (if the resolution is specifically defined and not variable, the boost cannot do anything for example)
Sony is also reportedly asking developers to Directly create a specific graphics mode for PS5 Proboth for new games and for games already published (in which case an update would be needed), we assume with the aim of obtaining better results than ultra-boost.
As always, we are not talking about incredible improvements as much as an optimization of what we already have available. In essence, it is a small leap forward, secondary for many, but for this very reason welcome.
As we have seen in recent months, for example with the case of Baldur's Gate 3, having two consoles with very different power is more of a disadvantage than anything else. Xbox Series S is a solid platform in principle and excellent for its price, but the truth is that it is too weak and in some cases players may even lose some functions (split-screen co-op in the case of BG3).
To publish an overly powerful PS5 Pro it would probably also be useless because it would not be fully exploited: it is difficult for it to become the number one platform on the market and certainly a development team would not create features that are only possible on PS5 Pro, leaving the rest of the gamers behind.
The situation is therefore always the same. The midgen models “don't do much good” and it is the best solution.
