Viñales, perfect weekend
First in qualifying, first in the Sprint and first in the race: Maverick Viñales he couldn't ask for more from Austin, where he also became the first rider in MotoGP history to win a Sunday Grand Prix with three different manufacturers (Suzuki, Yamaha and Aprilia).
A special performance for the Spaniard, mocked at the start by a carambola triggered by Jorge Martin and which sent him to 11th position. Viñales, unlike other times, managed to remain calm and concrete, making the race pace and his choice of medium on the rear count. And, position after position, he took back everything that was of him.
Viñales' words
“I work like crazy every morning to do every lap at 100%, and today I definitely made a difference. It's the best race I've done in the World Championship, I will carry it in my heart because it was a moment you can dream about but it's hard to achieve, so I'm living a dream. The bike was like in Portimão, although in Portugal I had a problem that took two tenths off me per lap on the straight“, this is his comment to Sky Sports MotoGP.
“I could have fought with Jorge until the end in Portugal too, but this is what I'm looking for: consistency. We know that if we find the right balance I can do extraordinary things and I already want to shoot again. I felt good all weekend from the first lap, but I also felt good in Portimão. It was a shame in Portimão because I could have perhaps been ahead in the standings, but we have to look at ourselves. We have to continue like this, we know we can do it if we find 100% of our bike. That's what I always tell the team: give me your best, and I will give it. Now we have to celebrate because we deserve itand then we'll think about the next race“.
“It was beautiful to see the belief and commitment of each of us, and it was impressive. I'm really happy with what the team has done in the last few days. At the end I opened a fairly big gap, but then I managed it because I was heating up the tire too much. I did a management lap and saw that Pedro was recovering, but then I pushed again“, he commented on the final laps of COTA, when Acosta gave the impression of being able to get slightly closer. “The choice of rubber? I was very convinced of the medium because in the morning I had set good times without pushing, but when I saw that the others were going with the soft I told myself that perhaps I had made a mistake. Instead I was right“.
