From comeback to comeback, but also from less to more Fermín Aldeguer this year. The Ñora rider, who started the course as a favorite in Moto2 but has had a mixed start, stood on the podium this Sunday in Austin for the first time this season. After a bad start, he recovered to obtain a third position in the Grand Prix of the Americas, which Sergio García won ahead of Joe Roberts.
Aldeguer started attentively, but when he entered the first corner he almost lost control of the bike and fell to seventh position. It was a chaotic start in which Canet, who arrived as the leader of the World Cup and started from pole, also stayed behind. It was the turn of the La Ñora pilot to row, like in the last grand prix. Another challenge, another setback at the first change, but Aldeguer did not give up at any time, and throughout the weekend he has improved his pace as the laps pass.
Little by little, he recovered the ground that had been opened with his head in a progressive and unstoppable comeback, until he ran into Alonso López, his teammate. In an exchange of slaps, Aldeguer ended up knocking him down and it took him just a couple of laps to make up for the lost time and close the gap with Dennis Foggia, the last obstacle to get on the podium.
He also got rid of it and came to hunt down Joe Roberts to fight for the second step of the podium. However, he lost steam in the final stretch of the race, and was unable to maintain the position that the local driver gave up for a couple of laps when he made a mistake. However, the podium injects points and confidence into Aldeguer ahead of his return to Europe. Next stop, close to home: the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez in two weeks.
