Amelia Tyler, narrator of Baldur's Gate 3, was recently interviewed by Eurogamer during the BAFTAs. The woman took the opportunity to reiterate hers disdain for the use of generative AI to imitate his voice without his consent, also adding that his voice is also used to horrific content, such as rape-themed pornography.
Tyler explains: “I joined this live stream because someone alerted me, and I found myself hearing my own voice reading rape-themed porn. This is the level of stuff we've had to deal with since this game came out and it was horrible, honestly“.
Tyler stated that the use of his voice “it not only steals my job, but also my identity” and that, while I love video game modding scenes, “taking my voice and using it to train something without my permission, I think that should be illegal.”
More testimonials on the use of AI
Andrew Wincott – Raphael's voice actor – said that as much as he appreciates the idea of working ten hours and getting 40 hours of content thanks to AI, he still expects to be paid for forty hours. Both Wincott and Samantha Béart (Karlach) fear that AI will be used to abuse contracts with voice actors.
David Harewood of Alan Wake 2, Ben Starr of Final Fantasy 16, and Ralph Ineson of Final Fantasy 16 see it similarly. Neil Newbon from Baldur's Gate 3 seemed more optimistic as the difference in quality between AI and professional voice actors is very large.
