The European Union (EU) “strongly condemned the unacceptable” attack launched this Saturday by Iran with drones and ballistic missiles against Israel.
“This is an unprecedented escalation and a serious threat to regional security,” the high representative of EU Foreign Policy and vice president of the European Commission, the Spanish Josep Borrell, stressed in his X account. The EU's condemnation of the Iranian action joins that of France and the United Kingdom, among others.
Israel has been waiting for days for a retaliatory attack from Iran, after the bombing of the Iranian consulate in Damascus on April 1, in which seven members of the Revolutionary Guard and six Syrian citizens died. The United States has alerted the Iranian regime that it “will stand with the Israeli people and support their defenses against threats from Iran.” Several countries in the region, including Israel, have closed their airspace and the Israeli Government has urgently convened the War Cabinet in view of the ongoing attack.
