The Municipal Socialist Group of Lorca has denounced the “secrecy” of the local government team regarding the regularization process of at least thirty pig farms outside of urban planning, which it manages jointly with the Autonomous Community. The main opposition party charges against the Executive led by Mayor Fulgencio Gil, of the PP, for not having publicly reported on the agreements adopted last October by the Local Government Board to implement this legalization and to begin the modification of the general municipal planning plan to establish an extraordinary way of regularizing farms. It is about, as LA VERDAD revealed, establishing a transitional urban planning regime to which pig feedlots that meet urban planning requirements can be accommodated, in accordance with an order issued in March 2023 by the community's former livestock minister, Antonio Luengo, also from the PP.
Ecologistas en Acción has appealed this order before the Superior Court of Justice of the Region of Murcia, considering it irregular as it lacked all favorable legal reports and was supposedly aimed at avoiding an adequate environmental evaluation of the farms. The Ministry defends the legality of the order and denies that it is avoiding environmental regulations. It did do the latter for years, which has forced it to cancel the authorizations to change the productive orientation of seventy farms spread throughout Lorca, the surroundings of the Mar Menor and other areas of the Region.
The socialist councilor José Luis Ruiz Guillén criticized the livestock mayor, the popular Ángel Meca, for having stated that the local government did not publicize his initiative to change the General Plan to avoid the negative reaction of livestock farmers who see that they cannot regularize farms. «The ranchers of Lorca know perfectly well what are the environmental and other requirements that they must meet in order to access the regularization of their farms, because the process of dialogue with the sector and with the Ministry began in a transparent manner and with all the guarantees when the PSOE was in charge of the City Council, until June 2023. The socialists will demand all the documentation from the Local Government Board and the rest of the files. These include orders to begin the closure of eight farms and to request a decommissioning plan for fourteen. This newspaper asked the government team for information about the administrative situation regarding the modification of the General Plan and the execution of the orders to close and dismantle the farms, but they did not respond.
