The IU- Podemos-AV coalition opposes the “express legalization” of 30 irregular pig farms spread throughout the municipality. Its spokesperson, Pedro Sosa, echoed the information published by the newspaper LA VERDAD about the regularization process that affects these farms, which are outside urban planning, and that is being processed jointly by the City Council and the Autonomous Community. .
According to Sosa, this “attempt to legalize what is illegal through the back door” will cause harm to many residents of Lorca, it will affect the environment, the quality of the air that is breathed, the quality of the water and the soil that can be being polluting by nitrates, to the correct planning of the territory, to the good harmonization of land uses and to the “undesirable normalization of unfair competition with livestock farmers who do things well.”
For the councilor, this legalization “tramples” the Land Law and the Integrated Environmental Protection Law. He assured that “the laws that affect everyone cannot be bypassed”, the advisory bodies of the administration, the Legal Council of the Region, the Economic and Social Council and the legal services of the Autonomous Community.
Sosa demanded that the municipal and regional governments, both of coalition between PP and Vox, explain to the people of Lorca which farms are going to benefit from this measure, where they are located and which districts “will be condemned to endure bad odors and swarms of flies” and what aquifers and soils “they will continue to contaminate.”
