Messi, the Pulce clothing line passes to Centric Brands
The casual clothing line 'The Messi store' designed by the former Barcelona star (now star of the Inter Miami club founded in the USA by David Beckham) and previously produced by Mgo Globalwas sold to Centric Brands for two million dollars (around 1.8 million euros. The New York group, which has the license for around 150 brands in its portfolio, will produce and distribute the garments of the label launched in 2019 by the 8-time Ballon d'Or winner and world champion in charging with the Argentina shirt.
“The operation is the result of a very unprofitable past for the group led by Virginia Ginny Hilfiger (sister of the well-known designer Thomas Hilfiger, ed.), who in the past had stipulated an agreement that guaranteed Messi, every quarter, a sum of no less than 320 thousand dollars – explains Pambianconews – A very high compensation when compared to the label's sales, which despite having seen an increase of 134% in the second half of 2023, with revenues of 226,345 dollars, was still not able to 'survive' the guaranteed minimum to the player for the use of his name”.
“In detail, Messi's contract with Mgo Global, three years after signing, was expiring this year and originally the footballer had sold the rights to his name and image in exchange for a 12% royalty on sales of the clothing line, for a total compensation estimated at four million euros”underlines Pambianconews.
