Turn 7 will be named after Dorna's patron
Dani Pedrosa, Sito Pons, Jorge Lorenzo and now also Carmelo Ezpeleta: the Jerez circuit has decided to name a corner after the owner of Dorna, the company that organizes the MotoGP. Curve number 7 of the iconic Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto will be renamed in honor of Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports, who played a fundamental role in promoting the circuit on the international scene – explained María José García-Pelayo, mayor of Jerez – the The decision was made in tribute to Ezpeleta's tireless work over more than three decades, during which he transformed the circuit into a leading venue for the MotoGP Spanish Grand Prix and the SBK World Championship. Under his leadership, Jerez has not only maintained its status as a key stop on the MotoGP calendar, but has also seen significant improvements to facilities and operations, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of riders and spectators.
The Jerez circuit it has expanded numerous escape routes in view of the 2024 edition which will be staged from Friday 26th to Sunday 28th April. The project included the expansion of the run-off areas at turns 1, 5, 6 and 10, bringing safety standards to the levels dictated by the FIM.
