It sure seems like it Foamstars isn't doing very well: despite many excellent premises, Square Enix's live service style multiplayer action on PS5 and PS4 it couldn't catch on and, within a couple of months, it already has lost almost 95% of the players that it had at launch on PlayStation Plus.
We remind you that the title in question was released directly into the catalogue PlayStation Pluswith an undoubtedly positive move to immediately guarantee a good base of active users, which is essential for a multiplayer game of this type.
The problem was then maintaining these players, which always represents the greatest difficulty for games multiplayer live serviceand Square Enix evidently failed to maintain interest.
For now the support continues
There are no official communications on the matter, but according to data collected by TrueTrophies, Foamstars would have lost over 94% of the active players who had been registered at launch between PS5 and PS4, with the shooter falling out of the top 200 of the most popular titles played on PlayStation Network.
The data is collected by the site in collaboration with GameInsight, tracking the activity of over 3 million active users on PSNtherefore it is a relatively small sample, but nevertheless indicative of the general trend.
The problem, in the case of Foamstars, is that for a live service it is essential to maintain a good amount of active players in the long term to justify constant investments in support and new contentbut given the progress at this point it is difficult to make predictions about the future of the game.
Meanwhile, the date of Mysterious Swing, the new season of Foamstars, which will arrive on April 12, has been revealed, so for the moment new content is guaranteed.
