Soumahoro's bill on the end of Ramadan: “Let it be a public holiday”
Aboubakar Soumahoro, MP elected with the Greens/Italian Left now in the Mixed Group, has filed a bill to make the day after the end of Ramadan a holiday.
He announced it himself in a post published on his profile Instagram. “I would like to wish from the bottom of my heart #EidAlFitrMubarak (Happy Holiday) to all the Muslim sisters and brothers in Italy and in the world” writes the deputy in the post.
“I take this opportunity to communicate that I have presented a bill to make the day after the end of Ramadan, the EidAlFit holiday, a holiday. In addition to respecting the principles of the secular state and religious plurality provided for by the Constitution, I believe that this is a concrete way to recognise, update, adapt and harmonize the laws of our country with the current and renewed reality” adds Soumahoro.
The deputy underlines that “Italy has changed, enriching itself with #plurality also from a religious point of view. Today, Islam is the second most widespread religion. Our country is the third nation in the European Union, after Germany and France, for the presence of people from the Muslim faith community.”
